ERUPT - First yearlings on sale at BSA CAPE YEARLING SALE

Updated: Feb 23

History will be made at this week's Bloodstock South Africa Cape Yearling Sale which takes place at the Mistico Equestrian Centre on Sunday, when the very first yearlings by Maine Chance Farms' Dubawi sire Erupt go through the sales ring.

One of the best-performed horses to commence his stud career in South Africa in recent years, the blue-blooded Erupt won five races (and earned nearly 1 000 000 pounds) during a racing career that saw Erupt compete in all of Britain, Canada, France, Japan and North America.

Erupt's four triumphs at three (he raced from 3-5) included a triumph in the G1 Grand Prix de Paris, as well as scores in both the G3 Prix du Lys and Listed La Coupe des Trois Ans. (Another Grand Prix de Paris winner to stand at stud in South Africa was champion sire Fort Wood).The bay went on to down a high-class field when victorious in the G1 Canadian International at four, and was also runner up in the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and third in the G2 Grand Prix de Deauville as a four-year-old.

One of more than 40 G1 winners for his outstanding sire Dubawi, Erupt hails from the immediate family of top-class stallions Encosta De Lago, Flying Spur, Holy Roman Emperor and Night Shift.

The well-performed bay will have three members of his first crop on offer at Sunday's sale;

Lot 59: Normandy Light (Erupt x Nordic Light)

This colt is out of a three-parts sister to East Cape Guineas winner Ice Wine, and half-sister to the graded stakes-winning siblings Nordic Breeze and Rushing Wind and the dam of current top sprinter Rio Querari. Selling as part of the draft of Normandy Stud.

Lot 132: Exhale (Erupt x Withbatedbreath)

From the famous "E" family, this colt is out of Oaks Trial runner up Withbatedbreath, a close relative of champion and red hot sire Elusive Fort, and own sister to Woolavington Handicap hero Benjan. Selling as part of the draft of Mauritzfontein Stud.

Lot 176: Flowerbomb (Erupt x Daffodil)

Out of a daughter of Fastnet Rock, this filly's grand-dam is a G1 placed own sister to Epsom Derby runner up The Great Gatsby and three-parts sister to G1 Grand Prix de Paris winner Imperial Monarch. She is part of the draft of Ridgemont Highlands, selling as agent.
