EL MISK has been purchased by the Griffiths De Kock team and have kindly offered the GRC a major share where he will race in our navy and gold colours. Here is some background on EL MISK.

He is the second foal but only runner from the fantastic SAF champion race mare IGUGU, who unfortunately passed early and was unable to produce further offspring. In EL MISK she left a very useful performer. The son of Dansili managed to achieve a very creditable mark of 105 in the UK, earned from multiple wins and a game second place short head finish in the Fred Archer (Listed) behind Universal Order, defeating the very useful Pablo Escobarr into third, this is top notch staying form.

EL MISK was trained in the UK by none other than John Gosden, who had him entered for the Epsom Derby due to the work and potential he was showing, with the horse eventually achieving a highest rating of 105, you can easily say he was not too far off in his assessment! EL MISK left the UK as a three time winning stakes placed stayer, heading for Australia, where so many British horses have done so well, using their superior stamina to great effect in the races over longer distances in Australia. It has been a slightly sluggish start for EL MISK in his new home, after running in a few races just short of his best distance, but his last start was an exceptionally eye catching third place when stepped up to 2200m, indicating a potential return to best form. The Australian handicap system is not exactly the same as the UK system, he was allocated a local 81 rating after leaving the UK as a 105, he is now rated 77 locally and clearly is prime to win off this mark after his last start.

The team at Griffiths De Kock have earmarked a nice schedule for him if all goes well. As we have mentioned before, there is real opportunity in Australia for horses that stay well. EL MISK off his 77 rating has been pinpointed as a horse to run during the Spring Carnival which starts in September. There are multiple “Country Cup” races which range anywhere between $200-500 000 which he will be aimed at after a few handicap races in June and July to get him in prime condition by the time the Spring Carnival starts.

Outside of the Spring Carnival, to give an idea on prize money levels, “Country midweek” ranges from A$25-35 000, “City midweek” minimum is A$50 000 and “City weekend” minimum is A$150 000! Massive prize money on offer.

His price makes him a great entry level horse into Australian horse ownership and we are banking on the team to get the best out of him with his change of scenery, if he manages to fufill his early potential shown in the UK, he could easily be a very big earner!
