The Vermaak Equine purchased Whiz Fizz made a bold statement when he recently made a winning debut at Kranji racecourse.
A grey three-year-old sired by just-deceased stallion Orpen, Whiz Fizz caught the eye in the recent $75,000 Restricted Maiden race over 1100m when scoring a smart first-out win for trainer James Peters.
Bustled up early from his wide alley to go and sit outside leader Bad Boy Black (Joseph See), Whiz Fizz was quick to put in the big bounds the moment jockey Juan Paul van der Merwe slipped some rein at the top of the straight.
The issue was put beyond doubt as he skipped clear to a two-length win from the fast-closing Con Speranza.
Peters was delighted with his charge’s performance, saying, “Whatever he did today, he will improve on fitness-wise. He’s still new and he’s a very nice prospect for the stable. A big thank you to Justin Vermaak who picked this horse and manages this racing group.”
Out of the stakes-placed Luhuk mare Wally Nut , Whiz Fizz races for Hardwicke Racing Club No 2 Stable and he hails from the same family as Prix Jacques le Marois winner and leading sire Kenmare.
